Before deregulation in 1999, all businesses received their electric service from one company that generated the electricity, transmitted, and distributed it directly to the business consumer. Currently the generator no longer transmits, distributes or sells electricity directly to the retail business market. The Board of Public Utilities (BPU) continues to regulate the market insuring a safe and reliable supply of electricity.
