Texas Retail Electricity Market
Before deregulation in 1995, businesses, of all sizes, received their electric service from one company that generated the electricity, transmitted, and distributed it directly to the business. The generator also sold you and serviced your electricity account. Now the generator no longer transmits, distributes or sells electricity directly to the retail business market. The Public utilities commission continues to regulate the market insuring a safe and reliable supply of electricity.
Local Wire Companies
Local wire companies transmit and distribute the electricity the end users. They also provide emergency support for outages and safety and insure the reliability of of the poles and wires.

Glacial Energy is a Retail Electricity Providers REP. REPs now buy electricity wholesale from the generator and then sell and service directly to businesses. The benefits of the 1995 deregulated market is better supply of, cleaner and more efficient power plants throughout Texas. This has resulted in a more competitive market that provides lower price, alternative energy options, better and more customized customer service.
